‘Nordafjells’ is Egil Kalmans debut as a folk music synthesist!
The tunes on the record are in the fiddle/hardangerfiddle, mouth harp and vocal music tradition of Setesdal (Norway), with the exception of the Springar, which is from Gudbrandsdalen (Norway). A musical tradition that Egil has been digging deep into the last years.
Paying close attention to intonation and ornamentation in the source material, these details shine in a new light, with the sound of raw electricity amplifying the inherent trance inducing qualities of the music. Footstomping, bowing patterns and resonant strings also find their electronic analogs in Egil’s modular synthesizer.
