This self-titled cassette is much more than the latest outing from Kansakunnan Ylpeys, whose sarcastic band name translates as “The Pride of the Nation.” Black humor aside, the unrelenting power trio forged in Oulu, Finland, has upped the ugliness factor since the 2017 release of its formidable debut LP. The current tape’s punishingly tight rhythms, tangled razor-wire guitars, and seriously pissed-off vibes are nothing short of a succinct noise-rock stab into the bloated belly of a world gone tediously soft.
