He collaborated with numerous Jazz musicians as Alexander von Schlippenbach, Peter Brötzmann, Manfred Schoof and Joachim Ernst Berendt amongst others. In 1968, Trepte and him turned towards Rock music and that year they co-founded Guru Guru in Heidelberg. The band got quickly in contact with contemporary famous bands as Tangerine Dream or Amon Düül. Being in their early days a political and partially satirical band, the develloped to a more experimental and also mainstream oriented Rock band. Besides some temporary splits of the band, Neumeier stayed part of the line-up more than 50 years. From the 1980’s, Neumeier also went solo with a slightly higher focus on electronic music and also reminiscences on jazz music. He went especially famous in Japan, where a sculpture of him is part of a wax museum since 1996.
