Maria ja Marsialaiset Hevikuiskaaja is their second full-length album. Hevikuiskaaja (The Heavy Metal Whisperer) will be released on August 15, 2025 on vinyl and digital format by Fonal Records and Ektro Records. The lineup — Maria Stereo, Noora Federley, Elissa Määttänen, and Ninni Luhtasaari — has composed and arranged the album together. Recording and mixing were handled by Manu Liira at Sirhill Audio.
On the new Hevikuiskaaja album, Maria Stereo explores her vocal range more richly than ever before. Her incredible vocals are mind-blowing, covering an astonishing spectrum. Her primal drumming drives and whips the band into action. Noora Federley’s fantastically hefty bass lays down a plush and powerful foundation, on top of which Ninni Luhtasaari’s lead guitar buzzes and howls, spitting out catchy riffs — with Määttänen’s riotous rhythm guitar right there beside her.
The sonic landscape draws from various rock traditions with a flavour of their own. The sound blends the proto-metal familiar from the debut with krautrock, grunge, and doom — sometimes seasoned with galloping disco and unhinged funk.
Elissa Määttänen’s lyrics mosh their way toward the playful songwriting traditions of the 1970s and ’80s. The texts play with strong contrasts: tensions simmer under the surface of lightness, as something darker brews underneath. Hevikuiskaaja continues the path set by the previous album Pysy hereillä (Stay Awake), deepening its snapshot-style storytelling and expanding its cast of characters.
Thematically, cops, crooks, and scoundrels romp together in harmony. The fresh full-length album sweeps the listener off for drinks with Sue Ellen, from drab office life to intoxicating nightlife, and — with heavy boots chafing — to the Norwegian fjords and UFO sightings in the fields. With the band, you’ll venture to the deep center of existence in our galaxy. But beware of a punch to the gut — and don’t answer a call from the past!
