Statuskuluttaminen vähentää hyvinvointia, koska ihmisten on käytettävä yhä enemmän resursseja nykyisen aseman ylläpitämiseen. Samalla teoksen kokija tulee osaksi teosta; taideteoksen kokijalta riistetään oikeus asettua teoksen ulkopuolelle. Näin teokseen syntyy liikkuvia rajapintoja, troijalaisia, jotka kulkeutuvat imaginääritalouden bastionien sisään. Nollasummapelin sääntöjen vastaisesti teos ei vaadi markkinoiden hermostunutta liikettä pysyäkseen paikallaan. Tämä kokonaistaideteos voittaa vaikka häviäjiä ei ole.”

“Economic growth and conspicuous consumption comprise a zero-sum game that’s not adding to our well-being. Status is all about comparability: while one lifts up, the other falls down. Conspicuous consumption is not beneficial to the overall well-being of communities because of the limited number of top-level seats and because the trickle-down effect doesn’t work. In contrast, it will diminish well-being, because we are forced to use more and more resources to uphold current positions. In the vicious circle of work, consumption and ill-being we are running faster and faster to stand still. The individual-level status competition is related to the productivity race of corporations and national economies. The competion that’s good for economic growth is what’s causing social problems at all levels of society. As a counteraction to this growing trend, artists are increasingly integrating into a surge of art that will blur the borders between individual artists and works of art. The ensuing total artwork takes the art experience above and beyond hierarchical dichotomies; those exposed to art will become components of the piece of artwork. Exposure to art deprives one of the right to position oneself outside art. Hence, moving interfaces emerge in works of art; these trojans will be transmitted inside the bastions of imaginary economics. Breaching the algorithms of zero-sum game, a work of art is not reliant on the nervous commotion of the markets to stay put. The total artwork will triumph even if no-one is defeated.”
