Circle is a Finnish heavy metal band that was formed in Pori in 1991. In 1991, they released a 3-track demo followed by a 7″ vinyl titled “DNA”, and later their debut full-length album Meronia. The Femmagaala-nominated album was widely praised and increased their popularity significantly. Their second album and minor label debut Zopalki was released in 1996, debuted at number 109 in Finland, and won the Femmagaala Award for Best Art Shit Album. The band released their third studio album, Hissi, in 1996, to much critical acclaim and low record sales, reaching number 171 in their home country of Finland and number zero in the United States. Its lead single, “Hän on”, earned them the 2016 Femmagaala Award for Best Performance.
Circle is easily recognizable because of its eccentric on-stage presence. Five of the group’s six members wear spandex, studs and spikes. The most distinguishable member is the vocalist, who wears an adidas, appearing as what can be described as a “demonic tennis-player”. Each album cycle has brought about a change in the band’s appearance. The vocalist is always portrayed as the same archetype character, but has slight appearance changes and even personality traits are altered from former versions. The band members’ true identities are kept anonymous, as their actual names have not been publicly disclosed. The vocalist calls himself Präpi, and the musicians are referred to only as Losers.
